This research examines economic analysis to identify the most important descriptive indicators of economic and technical efficiency of the cultivation and production of potatoes autumn and spring seasons in Homs governorate represented by Alksair region, with cultivation, for season 2009-2010 with a view to reaching a conclusion stating whether there is a possibility to continue growing this crop for either spring or autumn season in the study area. 

To carry out this research, a common scientific methodology which was appropriate to the nature of this kind of research, data types, how to collect them, choosing the sample, and selection of appropriate research method were processed representing in an economic descriptive method. Total number of respondents considered was (100) respondents, data were collected through personal interview, initial data were analyzed by descriptive approach adopted and used by Excel analysis programme. 

Results showed that the profitability of farming of the spring season, where profitability around (18%), while the economic efficiency of this period was (1.18), while technical was (1.61), Furthermore, the results showed that the profitability of autumn season has lost up to (3%), while the economic efficiency of this period was (0.97), while technical was (1.25). 

The results also showed that a decrease in productivity of potato cultivation unit in Homs governorate compared with average productivity in Syria.

With respect to production costs, the cost of seeding was at a highest level in both seasons, one of the most important recommendations of this study was the need of technical research that clarify the most important reasons that indicate to the low productivity area unit, along with a farm financial assessment and production of potatoes during autumn and spring in Homs governorate.

يتناول هذا البحث إجراء تحليل اقتصادي وصفي، بهدف تحديد أهم مؤشرات الكفاءة الاقتصادية والفنية لزراعة وإنتاج محصول البطاطا الخريفية والربيعية في محافظة حمص، ممثلة بمنطقة القصير، والتي تسود فيها هذه الزراعة، وذلك للموسم الزراعي 2009-2010، وذلك بغية التوصل إلى نتيجة تفيد فيما إذا كانت هناك إمكانية لمتابعة زراعة هذا المحصول سواء للعروة الربيعية أو الخريفية، أو للعروتين في منطقة الدراسة. أتبع لإنجاز هذا البحث منهجية علمية متعارف عليها ومناسبة لطبيعة مثل هذا النوع من الأبحاث، تمثلت في أنواع البيانات وكيفية جمعها، واختيار العينة، ومنطقة الدراسة، والأسلوب البحثي المناسب، الذي تمثل بالأسلوب الاقتصادي الوصفي، بلغ  عدد أفراد العينة المدروسة (100) مبحوثا، جمعت منهم البيانات عن طريق المقابلة الشخصية، تم تحليل البيانات الأولية باعتماد المنهج الوصفي واستخدم في إجراءه برنامج التحليل Excel. لقد بينت النتائج ربحية زراعة العروة الربيعية، حيث كانت الربحية حوالي ( % 18)، أما الكفاءة الاقتصادية لهذه العروة فكانت (1.18)  في حين كانت الكفاءة الفنية(1.61)  علاوة على ما سبق، فقد بينت النتائج عدم ربحية العروة الخريفية،  حيث وصلت الخسارة إلى (3%)، أما الكفاءة الاقتصادية لهذه العروة فكانت (0.97)في حين كانت الكفاءة الفنية (1.25)وضحت النتائج أيضا انخفاضا في إنتاجية وحدة المساحة المزروعة بالبطاطا في محافظة حمص بالمقارنة مع متوسط الإنتاجية في سورية. فيما يتعلق بتكاليف الإنتاج، فقد كانت تكلفة البذار هي الأعلى في كلتا العروتين، من أهم المقترحات التي توصلت إليها الدراسة، ضرورة القيام بأبحاث فنية تتوضح من خلالها أهم الأسباب التي تشير إلى تدني إنتاجية وحدة المساحة، علاوة على إجراء التقييم المالي للمزرعة وإنتاج محصول البطاطا الخريفية والربيعية في محافظة  حمص.
