| Abstract |
This research tackles one side of the numerous sides of the subject of the passive which is Defining and Indefining. It highlights the tiny differences in the meanings of the terms which had been stipulated by the grammarians about it. It demonstrates the existance of different indicative differences. But it acts for the subject in every case. It also shows the differences in the meaning of the terms in an isolated case itself. The research starts in talking about the limits of the definite and the indefinite and the effect of the speaker and the situation on defining the indefinite and undefining, the definite then it goes on to show the cause of the verb diverting from the active construction to the passive one.Then it carries on revealing the meaningswhich are achieved by the conditions which were put by the grammarians in the object about the subject. Then the infinitive , the object of a preposition. Then it concludes in showing the results

| الملخص |
يتناول هذا البحث جانبا واحدا من جوانب نائب الفاعل، وهو التعريف والتنكير فيه، فيبرز الفروق المعنوية الدقيقة للشروط التي اشترطها النحاة فيه، ويبين أن ثمة فروق دلالية مختلفة بين ما ينوب عن الفاعل في كل حالة، كما يبين الفروق المعنوية بين الشروط في الحالة الواحدة.
بدأ البحث بالحديث عن حدود النكرة والمعرفة وأثر المتكلم والمقام في تعريف المنكر وتنكير المعرف، ثم بين سبب العدول في الفعل من البناء للمعلوم إلى البقاء للمجهول، ثم راح يكشف عن المعاني التي تحققها جملة الشروط التي وضعها النحاة في المفعول به النائب عن الفاعل، ثم المصدر ثم الظرف ثم المجرور، وختم بإبراز النتائج.
