 The research aimed to define the concept of family farming and evaluate its role in achieving economic and social development, by applying it to a sample of farmers in Latakia Governorate, which included (350) farmers, where the questionnaire, the research tool, was distributed to them, and (330) complete and valid questionnaires were retrieved for the purposes of statistical analysis. The response rate reached (94.3%). The research relied on the descriptive approach, and the results showed that the sample members of farmers are familiar with the concept of family farming, as the social role of family farming from their point of view is: (contributing to occupying leisure time, benefiting from women’s efforts, achieving family self-sufficiency, contributing to satisfying The desires of the family, reinforcing the idea that land is a bond to its owner, regardless of the available capabilities of it), while the economic role is represented by: (contributing to family expenses, contributing to family income, overcoming unemployment in the family, contributing to family savings, achieving an economic status for the family, providing... Feed for livestock, providing safe food for the family, absorbing family labor, and ensuring a good future for the family).

 هدف البحث إلى تحديد مفهوم الزراعة الأسرية وتقييم دورها في تحقيق التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، وذلك بالاعتماد على عينة من المزارعين في محافظة اللاذقية شملت (350) مزارع، حيث تمّ توزيع الاستبانة أداة البحث عليهم، وتمّ استرداد (330) استبانة كاملة وصالحة لأغراض التحليل الإحصائي، وبنسبة استجابة بلغت (94.3%). اعتمد البحث على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، وأظهرت النتائج أنّ أفراد العينة من المزارعين على دراية بمفهوم الزراعة الأسرية، حيث يتمثل الدور الاجتماعي للزراعة الأسرية من وجهة نظرهم بـ: (المساهمة في شغل أوقات الفراغ، الاستفادة من جهود المرأة، تحقيق الاكتفاء الذاتي للأسرة، المساهمة في إشباع رغبات الأسرة، تعزيز فكرة أنّ الأرض سند لصاحبها مهما كانت الإمكانات المتاحة منها)، أما الدور الاقتصادي فيتمثل بـ: (المساهمة في تلبية أو سد نفقات الأسرة، المساهمة في دخل الأسرة، التغلب على البطالة في الأسرة، المساهمة في مدخرات الأسرة، تحقيق مكانة اقتصادية للأسرة، توفير الأعلاف للماشية، توفير الغذاء الآمن للأسرة، استيعاب العمالة الأسرية، تأمين مستقبل جيد للأسرة).
